Description

Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid (EDTMP) is a bone-targeted chelating agent. Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid sodium‘s phosphonic acid groups possess a unique ability to bind with high affinity to hydroxyapatite in bone, and can form radioactive compounds with 153Sm and 177Lu. Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid is used to study palliative therapy for pain associated with multiple bone metastatic cancers[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid forms stable complexes with 153Sm and 177Lu, and EDTMP delivers and immobilizes them at bone metastatic lesions. The β or γ rays released during the decay of 153Sm/177Lu produce ionizing radiation locally at the lesions to kill tumor cells, thereby achieving the goal of relieving bone pain[1][2][3].
