Chromomycosis

Definition:

Chromomycosis, also known as Chromoblastomycosis, is a chronic fungal infection of the skin and the subcutaneous tissue caused by a transcutaneous traumatic inoculation of a specific group of dematiaceous fungi usually found in tropical and subtropical areas. Main etiological agents belong to Fonsecaea and Cladophialophora genus and, while scattered cases have been reported in Phialophora, Rhinocladiella and Exophiala genus.
