SW620/5-FU

SW620/5-FU is a 5-fluorouracil-resistant derivative of the human colorectal cancer cell line SW620, generated by exposure to increasing concentrations of 5-fluorouracil^[1][2]. Resistant cells show altered glycosylation, increased β3GnT8 and polylactosamine, reduced FoxO3, activation of Nrf2/thioredoxin reductase signaling, and increased expression of the long noncoding RNA CRART16 in separate studies[1-3]. Manipulating these pathways can restore drug sensitivity, increase reactive oxygen species or apoptosis, and reduce resistant-cell growth, so SW620/5-FU is used to investigate acquired fluoropyrimidine resistance and resistance-reversal strategies in colorectal cancer; the resistant phenotype was created experimentally and is not a separate disease of origin[1-3].
