PSKH1

PSKH1 encodes a serine/threonine kinase of the CAMK group whose catalytic domain resembles that of protein kinase A, yet it is regulated by autophosphorylation rather than by cyclic nucleotides. The protein localizes to the Golgi apparatus, centrosomes and nucleus in an isoform-dependent manner and is most abundant in testis, brain and skeletal muscle. PSKH1 activity has been implicated in spermatogenesis, in phosphorylation of Golgi-associated and cytoskeletal substrates, and in protein trafficking. Its sibling PSKH2 is a primate-restricted paralog with narrow expression. Because recombinant PSKH1 is constitutively active, it serves as a convenient model for studying CAMK-family regulation.
