CD15

CD15 is a carbohydrate epitope, 3-fucosyl-N-acetyl-lactosamine, also known as Lewis X or SSEA-1, carried on glycoproteins and glycolipids rather than defined by a protein backbone. Recognized by antibodies such as Leu-M1, it is characteristic of mature granulocytes and monocytes and is prominently expressed on Reed-Sternberg cells of classical Hodgkin lymphoma, serving as a diagnostic marker. As a fucosylated sugar determinant, CD15 contributes to cell adhesion, with its sialylated derivative serving as a ligand for selectins. Aberrant CD15/Lewis X expression occurs in various carcinomas and has been linked to altered adhesion and metastatic behavior.
