Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000)
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS) (MW 6500-10000) is a polymer of dehydrated glucose with a molecular weight of approximately 5000. Dextran sulfate sodium salt with different molecular weights exhibits different biological activities. Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) has antiviral activity against HIV-1 and HIV-2. Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) blocks the binding of virions to CD4⁺ T lymphocytes and inhibits syncytia formation. Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) also prevents experimental urolithiasis due to its cytoprotective actions. Moreover, because of its biocompatible and highly charged properties, Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) is a suitable choice for pharmaceutical systems.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Antiviral activity:
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 8000) (6.75 μM, 48 h) inhibits syncytia formation between CD4+ ATH8 cells and HIV-1 infected H9 cells[1].
Cytoprotective activity:
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) (100, 500 μM, 24 h) protects mouse and human β-cells against death induced by the combination of IL-1β, TNF-α, and IFN-γ[3].
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) (100, 500 μM, 24 h) decreases IFN-γ, TNF-α, and IL-1β signaling pathways in human islets[3].
Used as coating material:
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) can be used to coat quantum dots to target scavenger receptors on macrophages[4].
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) can be used to coat PEI-GLU layer (an enzyme multilayer combi-biocatalyst) to generate a more hydrophilic surface[5].
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) can be used for formulation of Melittin/DS nanocomplex (based on strong electrostatic interactions between positively charged peptides and polyelectrolytes), which overcomes the high acute toxicity and short in vivo half-life of Melittin[6].

In Vivo
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (MW 6500-10000) (10 mg/kg, i.p., for 4 weeks) prevents T1D development in prediabetic NOD mice[3].
