CDKL3
CDKL3 is one of the least-characterized members of the cyclin-dependent kinase-like group, and it lacks the disease association that defines CDKL5 or the tissue-restricted expression of CDKL4. The protein carries the canonical CMGC-family catalytic domain followed by an extended C-terminal tail whose function is unknown. CDKL3 localizes to the nucleus, is expressed in proliferating tissues, and is capable of autophosphorylation within its activation segment, a hallmark of the family. No physiological substrate has been validated to date, so most studies rely on kinase-dead mutants and RNA interference. The recombinant enzyme supports target-identification work and inhibitor profiling across the CDKL branch.
