NEK11

NEK11 is a nuclear-enriched NIMA-related kinase whose expression peaks in S phase, positioning it as a replication-associated family member. It localizes to nucleoplasm and nuclear speckle-like structures and has been reported to phosphorylate substrates involved in DNA replication licensing, including the replication factor Cdt1, linking NEK11 activity to control of origin firing and genome duplication. Its regulation involves phosphorylation by upstream cell-cycle kinases. Compared with centrosomal relatives such as NEK2, NEK11 is distinguished by its nuclear compartmentalization and S-phase timing. Recombinant NEK11 supports studies of replication control and cell-cycle-dependent kinase networks.
