GPNMB/Osteoactivin Protein, Human (HEK293, His)

Cat. No.: HY-P70836
COA Handling Instructions

GPNMB, also known as osteoactivin, is a protein thought to have a potential role as a melanin-producing enzyme. Melanogenic enzymes are involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that determines skin, hair and eye color. GPNMB/Osteoactivin Protein, Human (HEK293, His) is the recombinant human-derived GPNMB/Osteoactivin protein, expressed by HEK293 , with C-6*His labeled tag. The total length of GPNMB/Osteoactivin Protein, Human (HEK293, His) is 465 a.a., with molecular weight of 80-120 kDa.

Background

GPNMB, also referred to as Osteoactivin, is a protein that has been proposed to have a potential role as a melanogenic enzyme. Melanogenic enzymes are involved in the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye color. While the exact mechanism of action of GPNMB in melanin synthesis is not fully understood, studies have suggested its involvement in this process. Further research is needed to elucidate the specific functions and regulatory mechanisms of GPNMB in melanogenesis and to determine its significance in melanin production.

Biological Activity

Measured in a cell proliferation assay using HUVEC cells. The ED50 this effect is 1.704 μg/mL, corresponding to a specific activity is 5.86×103 units/mg.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.

  • Reconstitution Calculator

  • Dilution Calculator

  • Specific Activity Calculator

The reconstitution calculator equation

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration
= ÷

The dilution calculator equation

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)

This equation is commonly abbreviated as: C1V1 = C2V2

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)
× = ×
C1   V1   C2   V2

The specific activity calculator equation

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)
Unit/mg = 106 ÷ ng/mL
