Definition:

Aminoimidazole carboxamide ribotide (AICAR) is a purine biosynthetic intermediate and a substrate of the AICAR transformylase/IMP cyclohydrolase (PurH) enzyme in Salmonella enterica. Aminoimidazole carboxamide ribotide (AICAR) accumulates and indirectly inhibits synthesis of the essential coenzyme thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP).
