Capnocytophaga canimorsus infection

Definition:

Capnocytophaga canimorsus is a fastidious, gram-negative commensal bacterium in the normal oral flora of dogs and cats. The bacterium has been isolated from humans infected by dog, or cat bites, scratches or licks. The infection presents as fulminant sepsis, endocarditis, and purulent arthritis associated with high mortality and most cases occur in immunocompromised patients.
