COLO 201
Definition:
COLO 201 is a human colon adenocarcinoma cell line established from the ascites fluid of a male patient with colon cancer; it shares characteristic chromosome markers with COLO 205 and contains approximately tenfold amplification and abundant expression of the c-myb oncogene[1][2]. COLO 201 cultures contain phenotypically distinct populations and have been used in cytotoxicity, oncogene, differentiation, apoptosis, and chemoresistance studies, while a CD44-positive fraction shows greater tumor formation, stem-like properties, and lower 5-fluorouracil sensitivity than CD44-negative cells[1-3]. The line originated from colon adenocarcinoma; stemness is an experimentally selected phenotype, not the donor diagnosis.
