Scedosporiosis

Definition:

Scedosporiosis caused by the genus Scedosporium has emerged as a severe infection in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals with a high incidence, ranging from localized to disseminated infections worldwide. Infectious agents are ubiquitous filamentous fungi present in soil, sewage, and polluted waters. Scedosporium apiospermum is the most common agent of scedosporiosis. Infection is acquired through trauma, inhalation and near-drowning.
