TE-2

Definition:

TE-2 is a human epithelial cell line established from squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus; the cells grow as isolated and piled-up colonies, have an approximately 72-hour doubling time, display desmosomes and interdigitated microvilli, release carcinoembryonic antigen, and form xenografts resembling the original tumor[1]. TE-2 subclones with different E-cadherin expression have demonstrated that reduced E-cadherin-mediated adhesion accompanies spindle morphology and greater invasion in organotypic culture[2]. TE-2 has also been used to examine ACVRIB-dependent inhibition of esophageal cancer invasion by stromal Activin A, supporting applications in adhesion, invasion, stromal signaling, and therapeutic-mechanism research[3].
