C18-PEG5000-COOH is a conjugate composed of an octadecyl group (C18 aliphatic chain), a PEG chain, and a carboxyl group (-COOH). C18-PEG5000-COOH combines the membrane compatibility of lipids with the carboxyl group, which can form amide bonds with primary amines via EDC/NHS activation, making it suitable for research in biomaterial construction and drug delivery.

In Vitro

The structure of C18-PEG-COOH comprises three key parts, each acting synergistically:
C18: The long-chain alkyl group imparts significant hydrophobicity to the molecule, enabling self-assembly and allowing it to form micelles, vesicles, or embed in lipid bilayers in aqueous environments.
PEG chain: Serving as a hydrophilic spacer, it forms a hydration layer on the particle surface, reducing non-specific adsorption and immune system clearance, thus prolonging the carrier's circulation time in vivo.
Carboxyl group (-COOH): Located at the end of the PEG chain, it acts as a reaction interface, capable of condensation or esterification reactions with amino groups, hydroxyl groups, etc.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
