Lipid bilayer carriers are bilayer membrane structures formed by the self-assembly of lipid molecules (such as phospholipids and cholesterol). Their hydrophobic tails face inwards and their hydrophilic heads face outwards, closely mimicking the lipid bilayer structure of natural cell membranes. They can be used to encapsulate hydrophobic or hydrophilic drugs, diagnostic reagents, and nucleic acid molecules, enabling targeted delivery to specific cells or tissues and controlled release.
