Biological Activity: Ferene disodium (Ferene S) is a chromogenic chelating agent used primarily as a specific detection reagent for Fe2+ and iron-binding proteins. Ferene disodium specifically recognizes iron ions by binding to Fe2+ to form a stable 3:1 chromogenic complex. Ferene disodium is used for the colorimetric quantitative determination of serum iron and lactoferrin[1][2].
