S 1592 markedly inhibits coughing induced in laboratory animals by chemical or mechanical irritation of respiratory tract or by electrical stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve^[1].
S 1592 (i.p.) exhibits LD₅₀s of 157 mg/kg and 251 mg/kg in rats and mice, respectively^[1].
S 1592 (i.p.) at LD₅₀ doses causes muscle weakness, irritability, and respiratory distress in mice and rats^[1].
