Allopregnane is a C₂₁-type 5α-stane steroid derivative, a potent inhibitor of estrogen-induced chicken oviduct growth, and is present in the starfish Asterias amurensis^[1]^[2]^[3].

Allopregnane (5α-pregnane) derived seven compounds (three new steroidal sulfates, three known monosaccharide saponins, one new oligosaccharide saponins) are isolated and structurally characterized from starfish Asterias amurensis using NMR, HRESI-MS, and TDDFT-ECD, expanding the structural diversity of starfish saponins^[1].
Allopregnane (5α-pregnane) is detected as a trace sterane constituent in southern California municipal wastewater effluents from JWPCP, Hyp-5 mi, Hyp-7 mi, OCSD, and CSD treatment plants, with the sterane class present at concentrations ranging from <0.5-50 μg/L in unfiltered samples^[3].
