β-Terpinene
β-Terpinene is a naturally occurring monoterpene, prohapten/metabolic substrate, and contact allergen inducer, with moderate potency as a sensitizer.β-Terpinene undergoes metabolic activation to epoxides that conjugate with glutathione.β-Terpinene induces contact allergy via reactive allylic epoxide metabolites.β-Terpinene does not significantly reduce growth of Erwinia amylovora at concentrations up to 1500 mg/l.β-Terpinene can be used for the research of Aspergillus flavus infection.

Biological Activity
β-Terpinene (compound 5) can be metabolically activated by human and female CD-1 mouse liver microsomes to form reactive electrophilic metabolites capable of conjugating with glutathione, and distinct conjugate profiles are generated in the two microsomal systems[2].

Result:Recorded mean [3H]thymidine incorporation of 873 dpm/lymph node with a stimulation index (SI) of 1.4 at 1% w/v.
Recorded mean [3H]thymidine incorporation of 839 dpm/lymph node with an SI of 1.3 at 10% w/v.
Recorded mean [3H]thymidine incorporation of 1337 dpm/lymph node with an SI of 2.1 at 25% w/v.
Determined the estimated EC3 value (concentration required to induce an SI of 3) was >25% w/v (>1.8 M).
