Sarcinaxanthin is a carotenoid present in various bacteria with antioxidant activity. Sarcinaxanthin scavenges singlet oxygen, thereby inhibiting oxidative degradation in the β-carotene/linoleic acid system. Sarcinaxanthin acts as a photoprotective agent against UVB radiation that induces erythema. Sarcinaxanthin can be applied in studies related to antioxidation and radiation resistance.

Description

Sarcinaxanthin is a carotenoid present in various bacteria with antioxidant activity. Sarcinaxanthin scavenges singlet oxygen, thereby inhibiting oxidative degradation in the β-carotene/linoleic acid system. Sarcinaxanthin acts as a photoprotective agent against UVB radiation that induces erythema. Sarcinaxanthin can be applied in studies related to antioxidation and radiation resistance[1][2].

In Vitro

Sarcinaxanthin inhibits β-carotene/linoleic acid oxidation by 76.53% at a concentration of 18 mg/mL after 120 min incubation at 50°C[2].
Sarcinaxanthin (100 mg/L) has an in vitro sun protection factor of 9.36[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
