BMDC
Definition:
Bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) are ex vivo cell preparations generated by culturing bone marrow progenitors with cytokines such as GM-CSF, GM-CSF/IL-4, or FLT3 ligand; the species and resulting phenotype depend on the protocol[1-3]. Mouse GM-CSF cultures commonly yield CD11c-positive, MHC-II-positive cells but contain non-adherent, adherent, and macrophage-like subsets with different maturation, cytokine, phagocytic, and T-cell-stimulatory properties[1][2]. Rat GM-CSF/IL-4 and FLT3-ligand cultures likewise produce functionally distinct populations, and BMDCs are used for antigen-presentation, immune-activation, tolerance, migration, vaccine-adjuvant, and differentiation studies, but they should not be treated as a single immortal cell line[3].
