Biological Activity: Methyl (+/-)-2-hydroxystearateis a hydroxylated fatty acid methyl ester that broadens phase transitions in dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) lipid membranes. It has been used in the synthesis of lipid-nucleotide conjugated anti-HIV agents to increase the cleavage of phosphodiester bonds and the number of released intracellular nucleotides.
