Ethylmalonyl‑CoA is generated via the reductive carboxylation of crotonyl-CoA catalyzed by crotonyl-CoA carboxylase/reductase (CCR); it can be recognized by the PKS acyltransferase AT and participate in the biosynthesis of antibiotic polyketide natural products.
