The structure of DMG-PEG-OH comprises three key components that work synergistically:
DMG: Acts as a hydrophobic anchor, securely embedding the entire molecule into the membrane structure of lipid nanoparticles.
PEG chain: Acts as a hydrophilic spacer arm, forming a hydration layer on the particle surface, reducing non-specific adsorption and immune system clearance, and prolonging the carrier's circulation time in vivo.
Hydroxyl group (-OH): It is an active group that can serve as a starting point for further chemical reactions, such as coupling drug molecules, linking other targeted ligands, or modifying material surfaces.
