Merepoxine is a jacobin-like pyrrolizidine alkaloid and an epoxide. Merepoxine is formed by the transformation of melensine under alkaline conditions, involving an SN2 reaction accompanied by elimination of hydrogen chloride (i.e., a chlorohydrin-like reaction) to form this epoxide.
