Hexadecyl ferulate
Hexadecyl ferulate is a lipophilic C16 alkyl ferulate synthesized from ferulic acid and cetyl alcohol, possessing free radical-scavenging antioxidant activity. Hexadecyl ferulate inhibits the formation of lipid oxidation products in soybean oil during deep frying and exhibits antioxidant efficacy that increases with alkyl chain length. Hexadecyl ferulate can be used in antioxidant-related research.

Actividad biológica
Descripciòn
In Vitro
Hexadecyl ferulate (HF) (0.1-50 μg/mL; 15 min) exhibits scavenging activity in the DPPH• radical scavenging assay with an IC50 of 0.083 nM, and displays potent scavenging activity in the ABTS radical cation decolorization assay with an IC50 of 0.027 nM[1].
Hexadecyl ferulate (HF) (200 mg/kg) inhibits the formation of lipid oxidation products in a soybean oil high-temperature frying model system, and its antioxidant effect is superior to that of short-chain alkyl ferulates[2].
Hexadecyl ferulate (FA C16) belongs to the class of alkyl ferulates and exhibits weak antioxidant or weak pro-oxidant effects in fish oil-fortified emulsion systems[3].
