SCYL3

SCYL3, identified originally as PATS1, is the least characterized kinase-like protein of the SCY1-like family and is broadly expressed across tissues. Like its paralogs, it pairs an N-terminal pseudokinase domain with C-terminal tetratricopeptide-repeat-like regions, and it localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm with enrichment in the perinuclear region. Early studies reported interaction with the HIV-1 Tat protein, suggesting a role at the interface of viral and cellular pathways, while other work has implicated SCYL3 in cell proliferation and stress responses. Its physiological substrates and pathways remain poorly defined. Recombinant SCYL3 supports structural and functional dissection of this understudied pseudokinase.
