Zinc sulphate is an orally active inhibitor of tyrosinase and glutathione reductase. Zinc sulphate enhances the activity of dopachrome tautomerase. Zinc sulphate delays anagen-related eumelanin production, induces hair hypopigmentation in mice, and accelerates wound healing. Zinc sulphate can be used in research related to benign gastric ulcers. Zinc sulphate can be used in research related to rheumatoid arthritis.

Description

Zinc sulphate is an orally active inhibitor of tyrosinase and glutathione reductase. Zinc sulphate enhances the activity of dopachrome tautomerase. Zinc sulphate delays anagen-related eumelanin production, induces hair hypopigmentation in mice, and accelerates wound healing. Zinc sulphate can be used in research related to benign gastric ulcers. Zinc sulphate can be used in research related to rheumatoid arthritis[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Zinc inhibits tyrosinase and glutathione reductase in vitro, but also enhances the activity of dopachrome tautomerase and acts as an agonist of melanocortin receptor signaling[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Zinc sulphate (20 mg/mL; administered orally via drinking water; continuous; up to 11 months) induces a persistent lightening of hair shafts to a bright brown color during the natural anagen phase of mouse hair, inhibits eumelanin production without switching to pheomelanin production, and reduces the density of melanin granules in hair follicle structures[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: C57BL/6 a/a (female, 6-8 weeks old)[1]
Dosage: 20 mg/mL
Administration: oral; continuous; up to 11 months
Result: Observed macroscopic bright brown lightening of new hair shafts produced during anagen, with the effect maintained throughout the treatment period.
Confirmed no switch from eumelanogenesis to phaeomelanogenesis via EPR analysis.
Reduced and poorly pigmented melanin granules in precortical hair matrix keratinocytes, hair bulb melanocytes, and hair shafts compared with controls.
Maintained hair coat lightening usually persisted until the immediately consecutive anagen phase after treatment discontinuation.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
