2,4-Dinitrotoluene dioxygenase (EC 1.14.12.24) belongs to the family of bacterial Rieske non-heme iron dioxygenases involved in naphthalene degradation. 2,4-Dinitrotoluene dioxygenase produces a cis-dihydroxylated product that spontaneously rearranges to form catechol, accompanied by the release of nitrite.
