2-Hydroxyacylsphingosine 1-β-galactosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.45) is a transferase that transfers a galactosyl group from UDP-galactose to a ceramide molecule, forming galactosylceramide (GalCer). GalCer is a precursor to various complex glycosphingolipids and a key component of myelin.
