2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium
Based on 6 publication(s) in Google Scholar
2-Ketoglutaric acid (Alpha-Ketoglutaric acid) (potassium) is an intermediate in the production of ATP or GTP in the Krebs cycle. 2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium is a reversible and orally active inhibitor of tyrosinase with an IC50 value of 15 mM. 2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium also acts as the major carbon skeleton for nitrogen-assimilatory reactions. 2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium significantly suppresses abnormal intestinal permeability, delocalization of tight junction proteins from the intestinal cells, expression of TNFα in vitro and in vivo. 2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium directly binds to TAK1, and inhibits the TRAF6-TAK1 interaction. 2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium also alleviates inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) symptoms and gut microbiota dysbiosis, evident by the improvements in the intestine length.

Biological Activity
2-Ketoglutaric acid (Alpha-Ketoglutaric acid) Sodium (GMP) has other physiological capabilities including reduction of ammonia level formed in the lung and general ammonia detoxification, protective role against lipid peroxidation and neuroprotective effect against cyanide poisoning[1].
2-Ketoglutaric acid Sodium (GMP) acts as precursor for the synthesis of amino acids and nucleotides[2].
2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium (Compound 2-KT) (12.5-50 μM, 0-24 h) significantly suppresses the STI-induced reduction in the TEER values after 24 h and FITC-dextran permeability after 12 h as well as reducing inflammatory response in differentiated Caco-2 cells[3].
2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium (50 μM, 0-2 h) suppresses the STI-induced expression of MLXK and results in MLC phosphorylation in Caco-2 cells that are fully differentiated[3].
2-Ketoglutaric acid potassium (50 μM, 0-24 h) evidently suppresses STI-induced TAK1 phosphorylation in differentiated Caco-2 cells and the interaction between TAK1 and TRAF6 in differentiated Caco-2 cells[3].
