Biological Activity
3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (1-20% by mass relative to TiO2; 60 min hydrolysis, 120 min modification stirring, 30 min high-speed stirring, 4 h Soxhlet extraction, 4 h vacuum drying) successfully grafts to rutile TiO2 nanoparticles, with maximum grafting efficiency of 97.7% at the 3% (0.15 mL per 5 g TiO2) concentration; modification reduces particle agglomeration, increases surface hydrophobicity to a contact angle of 111.76°, and leaves the TiO2 rutile crystal structure and individual particle size/shape unchanged[2].
