Background

  • Function

Claudin 8 is a Can associate with other claudins to regulate tight junction structural and functional strand dynamics. May coassemble with CLDN4 into tight junction strands containing anion-selective channels that convey paracellular chloride permeability in renal collecting ducts. Cannot form tight junction strands on its own[1].

  • Subcellular Localization

Cell junction, tight junction; Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein

  • Expression

Tissue_specificity:Expressed in the epididymis, mainly in the caput segment

  • Subunit

Can form heteropolymeric strands with other claudins (PubMed:36008380). Directly interacts with TJP1/ZO-1, TJP2/ZO-2 and TJP3/ZO-3. Interacts with CLDN4; forms coassem. Interacts with KLHL3
