Background
-
Function
STEA3 is an integrated membrane protein that functions as a NADPH-dependent iron chelate reductase, using NADPH on one side of the membrane to reduce Fe3+ chelates bound to the other side.
-
Subcellular Localization
Endosome membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein
-
Expression
Tissue specificity: Expressed in adult bone marrow, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle and pancreas. Down-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Induction: By p53/TP53. -
Isoforms & Post-Translational Modification
STEAP3 exists in four isomers: Q658P3-1 (488 amino acids, predicted molecular weight 54,601 Da); Q658P3-2 (498 amino acids, predicted molecular weight 55,652 Da); Q658P3-3 (487 amino acids, predicted molecular weight 54,472 Da); and Q658P3-4 (456 amino acids, predicted molecular weight 50,499 Da).
It can be cleaved by RHBDL4/RHBDD1 protein hydrolysis. RHBDL4/RHBDD1-induced cleavage occurs at multiple sites and is independent of glycosylation. Glycosylation modification. -
Subunit
Homodimer. Interacts with BNIP3L, MYT1, RHBDL4/RHBDD1 and TCTP.
