Biological Activity: (1-Amino-1-phosphonooctyl)phosphonic acid is a selective acid sphingomyelinase (aSMase) inhibitor with an IC50 of 40 nM against rat aSMase. (1-Amino-1-phosphonooctyl)phosphonic acid blocks the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin to ceramide and shows no significant inhibition of Mg2+-dependent neutral sphingomyelinase (nSMase)[1].
