Phospholipase A2
Based on 1 publication(s) in Google Scholar
Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) is a calcium-dependent, heat-stable enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glycerophospholipids at the sn-2 position of cellular membranes, thereby releasing Arachidonic Acid (AA) (HY-109590). Phospholipase A2 is a key mediator in the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory lipid mediators, critically involved in inflammatory processes. Phospholipase A2 can be used for cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases research.

Actividad biológica
Phospholipase A2-modified apoB-100 lipoproteins, which are more susceptible to further enzymatic and nonenzymatic modifications, induce accumulation of intracellular lipids in macrophages and bind strongly to extracellular matrix proteoglycans[2].
Phospholipase A2 can induce aggregation and fusion of the matrix-bound lipoproteins and so further increase their binding strength to the matrix proteoglycans[2].
Phospholipase A2 can modify the circulating lipoproteins and so induce formation of small dense LDL particles, which are associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease[2].
Phospholipase A2 injures lymphatic endothelial cells leading to progression of secondary lymphoedema[3].
Phospholipases A2 can be used for the synthesis of prostaglandins, leukotrienes, platelet-activating factors, and other bioactive lipids[4].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
