NPD8716
NPD8716 is a sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) inhibitor with a human IC50 of 17.8 μM. NPD8716 interacts with NTCP, blocks the binding of HBV preS1 to NTCP, impairs NTCP-mediated bile acid uptake, inhibits NTCP transporter activity, and blocks the attachment of viruses to host hepatocytes. NPD8716 inhibits the entry of HBV and HDV into host cells. NPD8716 can be used in studies related to hepatitis B virus infection and hepatitis D virus infection.

NPD8716 (25-200 μM; 16 h coincubation with HBV, followed by 12 days of culture without compound) inhibits HBV infection in HepG2-hNTCP-C4 cells in a dose-dependent manner, with no cytotoxicity[1].
NPD8716 (40 μM for the first 3 days, then switched to 20 μM until day 24 or day 36; or continuously administered at 60 μM until day 24) inhibits the spread of HBV in freshly isolated primary human hepatocytes when administered at the time of inoculation or 48 h post-inoculation[1].
