CD185/CXCR5

CD185 is the B-cell listing of CXCR5, the chemokine receptor that concentrates B lymphocytes in follicles by sensing CXCL13 deposited on follicular dendritic cell networks. Within germinal centers, graded CXCR5 expression influences the light-zone versus dark-zone behavior of centrocytes and shapes interactions with T follicular helper cells, thereby affecting affinity maturation and plasma-cell output. CXCR5 also marks a memory B-cell compartment with follicular recall potential. Reduced CXCR5 expression characterizes age-related immune dysfunction and certain B-cell lymphomas, and therapeutic modulation of the CXCL13-CXCR5 axis is under investigation for both chronic inflammation and lymphoma.
