PIP5K1A
PIP5K1A (PIPKIα) is a type I phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase that synthesizes the major signaling lipid PI(4,5)P2 from PI4P at the plasma membrane. It is especially abundant in the brain, where it supports clathrin-mediated endocytosis, synaptic vesicle cycling and exocytosis, and it localizes to growth cones and neurites during neuronal development. PIP5K1A activity is stimulated by small GTPases of the ARF and RHO families, and its PI(4,5)P2 product anchors cytoskeletal regulators and ion channels while serving as substrate for PLC and class I PI3K signaling. Loss of PIP5K1A function disrupts neuronal endocytic trafficking.
