Serpin B11
Also recorded as proteinase inhibitor 11 (PI11), Serpin B11 is a poorly characterized intracellular serpin of the clade B group, encoded on chromosome 18 alongside its paralogs SERPINB8, B10, B12 and B13. Transcripts are most abundant in liver, with additional expression reported in placenta, kidney and testis. No canonical inhibitory target has been validated, although the conserved reactive-center loop implies activity against chymotrypsin-like serine proteases within the cytoplasm or nucleus. Since clade B serpins generally protect cells from protease-mediated damage during inflammation and apoptosis, Serpin B11 is studied as part of this cytoprotective network, and recombinant protein enables structural and functional annotation efforts.
