PRMT3 protein is a multifunctional protein arginine N-methyltransferase. As a type I methyltransferase, it catalyzes monomethylation and asymmetric dimethylation of arginine residues in target proteins. In addition to its methyltransferase role, PRMT3 may also regulate retinoic acid synthesis and signaling by inhibiting ALDH1A1 retinal dehydrogenase activity.
