Background

TAFA5, a member of the TAFA family, is part of a gene family consisting of five highly homologous members that encode small secreted proteins. Characterized by conserved cysteine residues at fixed positions, these proteins share distant relation to MIP-1alpha, a member of the CC-chemokine family. Predominantly expressed in specific regions of the brain, TAFA proteins are postulated to function as brain-specific chemokines or neurokines, potentially serving as regulators of immune and nervous cells. With biased expression observed in brain (RPKM 13.2), endometrium (RPKM 3.4), and various other tissues, TAFA5 emerges as a potential player in the intricate interplay between the immune and nervous systems.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.

  • Dilution Calculator

  • Specific Activity Calculator

The reconstitution calculator equation

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration
= ÷

The dilution calculator equation

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)

This equation is commonly abbreviated as: C1V1 = C2V2

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)
× = ×
C1   V1   C2   V2

The specific activity calculator equation

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)
Unit/mg = 106 ÷ ng/mL
