It is a quaternary ammonium surfactant commonly used in various industrial and laboratory applications such as the production of detergents, personal care products and pharmaceuticals. 3-(Hexadecyldimethylammonio)propane-1-sulfonate is surface active and can be used as an emulsifier, foaming agent and wetting agent. In addition, it is used as a solubilizer in protein purification and as a surfactant in chromatography.
