Thiomichler's ketone  (Synonyms: 4,4'-Bis(dimethylamino)thiobenzophenone)

Thiomichler's ketone (4,4'-Bis (dimethylamino) thiobenzophenone) is a heavy metal complexing agent and a colorimetric/spectrophotometric reagent. Thiomichler's ketone shows selectivity for Hg²⁺ at pH 3, and exhibits activity towards Pd²⁺ and Ag⁺ at pH 3.5. Thiomichler's ketone enables accurate detection of trace Pd²⁺ by forming an extractable Hg²⁺ complex via micelle-mediated cloud point extraction, or generating a red coordination complex including Pd (TMK)₄. Thiomichler's ketone is applicable for the determination of trace Pd²⁺ in antibiotics and catalysts of automobile exhaust purifiers^[1][2][3].

Thiomichler's ketone (2.2×10^-5 mol L^-1; 15 min at 50 °C) acts as a selective and sensitive chromogenic reagent for spectrophotometric determination of Hg²⁺ in aqueous solutions and water samples via cloud point extraction, enabling detection of Hg²⁺ down to 0.83 ng mL^-1 with excellent reproducibility and recovery^[1].
