4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol acts as a biofilm inhibitor, Antibacterial agent, Antifungal agent, and Acaricide. 4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol reduces the expression levels of biofilm-associated gtfB, gtfD, and gtfC genes. 4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol disrupts ion and redox homeostasis in fungal cells, and its combination with Octylgallate enhances antifungal activity. 4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol exhibits fumigant toxicity and direct contact toxicity against Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. 4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol is applicable to research related to dental caries and Aspergillus infections/contamination.

4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol (1.6-800 μg/mL; 24 h) exerts only a slight inhibitory effect on biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans JCM 5705 when used alone at sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations, and its MBIC is 8-fold higher than that when combined with POEHCO[1].
4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol (100 μg/mL; 4 h) significantly downregulates the gene expression of gtfB, gtfC, and gtfD in Streptococcus mutans JCM 5705[1].
4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol inhibits the growth of Aspergillus brasiliensis with an MIC of 1.6 mM, and kills this fungus with an MFC of 6.4 mM; when used in combination with Octylgallate, its growth inhibitory activity is synergistically enhanced by 4-fold, while its fungicidal activity remains unchanged[2].
4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol targets cellular ion and redox homeostasis, as vacuolar (vph2Δ, vma1Δ) and cytoplasmic superoxide dismutase (sod1Δ) mutant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae show higher sensitivity to it than other tested yeast strains[2].
4-Isopropyl-3-methylphenol (24 h) exhibits direct contact acaricidal activity against adult Dermatophagoides farinae (LD50 = 0.56 μg/cm2) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (LD50 = 0.67 μg/cm2)[3].
