AHMT is an aldehyde-specific and aldehyde-reactive colorimetric detection reagent. AHMT detects the formation of Phenylacetaldehyde in high-throughput screening for engineered anti-Markovnikov oxidation activity. AHMT serves as a formaldehyde detection reagent to detect formaldehyde produced in the Methanethiol oxidase reaction.

The AHMT-based anti-Markovnikov HTS assay detects phenylacetaldehyde produced from the oxidation of styrene by CglUPO variants secreted by S. cerevisiae, enabling the screening of a mutant library comprising 670 clones[1].
The AHMT assay detects methanethiol-derived formaldehyde at 549 nm, revealing copper-dependent HCHO generation by recombinant RdMTO and SELENBP1[2].
AHMT reacts with formaldehyde under alkaline conditions to form a product detectable at 549 nm, which is suitable for recombinant proteins but not for liver lysates[3].
