Trijuganone B (Tetrahydro tanshinone I) is a naturally occurring covalent pan-inhibitor of gut microbial bile salt hydrolases that can be isolated from Salvia trijuga. Trijuganone B inhibits total gut microbial bile salt hydrolase activity in live microorganisms and murine gut luminal content. Trijuganone B can be used for the research of bile-acid-related metabolic disorders.

Trijuganone B (Tetrahydro tanshinone I) is a potent pan-inhibitor of purified recombinant EfBSH, LsBSH, BtBSH, CpBSH, and BlBSH enzymes, with IC50 values ranging from 0.28 μM to 1.62 μM[1].
Trijuganone B (50 μM; 2 h) covalently modifies the conserved catalytic Cys2 residue of purified recombinant EfBSH, LsBSH, BtBSH, CpBSH, and BlBSH enzymes, and can modify additional cysteine residues in some of these enzymes[1].
Trijuganone B (63 min) potently inhibits recombinant EfBSH activity in live E. coli BL21 (DE3) cells, with an IC50 of 2.49 μM[1].
