Butikacin
Butikacin (UK-18892) is an antibiotic and a derivative of Kanamycin (HY-16566). Butikacin resists most aminoglycoside-inactivating enzymes through its structure, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth. Butikacin can be used in research on bacterial infections.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Butikacin (UK-18892) (overnight) exhibits potent antibacterial activity against 21 unselected clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa, with a modal MIC of 2 μg/mL[2].
Butikacin (50 μg/mL) exhibits a low protein binding rate (16.1%) in human serum[2].
Butikacin (1.25-20 μg/mL) is modified by 6'-aminoacetyltransferase in acetyltransferase preparations from Escherichia coli R5/W677[2].

Animal Model:Redfern strain (Pfizer colony) (albino, within 48 h of birth)[1]
-
Dosage:50 mg/kg; 100 mg/kg; 200 mg/kg
-
Administration:s.c.; once daily; up to 40 days
-
Result:Had no effect on Preyer's reflex for the first 25 to 30 days, after which mean threshold sound intensities began to rise slowly at 50 mg/kg per day, .
At 100 mg/kg per day, thresholds at 12 kHz began to rise between days 12 and 15, and complete loss of Preyer's reflex at 12 kHz required 33 days.
At 200 mg/kg per day, produced rapid loss of Preyer's reflex at 12 kHz within 17 days.
