Biological Activity: 2-Hydroxy-2-methylbutanoic acid is a branched-chain fatty acid. 2-Hydroxy-2-methylbutanoic acid accumulates at high levels in the culture supernatants of colorectal cancer-associated bacteria. 2-Hydroxy-2-methylbutanoic acid is also present in the urine of patients with 2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria and maple syrup urine disease[1].
